About SimuSlate FilmLab

SimuSlate Film Lab is a 5 week online short documentary development lab targeted at emerging and established African filmmakers. The aim of the lab is to offer targeted support in treatment writing, shooting of rough cuts and packaging for international festival distribution.

Participants are expected to apply with a project idea that they can work on and produce using a smartphone or mobile device.

In order to successfully complete the program and receive a certificate of participation, attendees are expected to submit a creative documentary or experimental film. Films should be no longer than 10 minutes with a thematic focus on social challenges or contribute to one of the UN Sustainable Development Goals.

Filmmakers retain all rights to film works produced but are required to display the logo stamp ‘Developed at SimuSlate Film Lab’ on the end credits.

• • The FilmLab is open to individuals and teams of up to 2 participants.
  • Prior filmmaking knowledge is desired but experience is not necessary.
  • Participants need to have an idea that can be developed and produced during the lab.
  • The program focuses on creative documentaries and non-fiction experimental projects exclusively shot on smartphones and mobile devices.
  • Completed projects will have a total runtime of 10 minutes.
  • Film lab will run for approximately 5 weeks with weekly online meetings.
  • In order to receive completion certificates, participants will be required to submit a completed film project. Quality projects will receive international film festival distribution support.
